This mammoth coliseum must once have been the pride of the city. It is

an architectural masterpiece, with soaring balistrades, vaulted

ceilings, and elaborately tiled floors. Mostly intact, the coliseum

still is quite impressive. Just inside the entryway are rows upon rows

of stone tiers, so that crowds could watch the action from above.

Heavy iron bars prevent anyone from leaping down into the arena. To

the east, a locked wooden door leads to the preparation area.
