The inside of the darkwood tree is much like the outside, with coal-

black bark walls as hard as iron. Softly glowing globes affixed to the

walls cast a pale blue-white radiance that gives the inside of the

tree a ghostly appearance. A wide staircase of darkwood steps spirals

upwards through the tree here, winding its clockwise course into the

unknown.
