This putrid, filthy passage is little more than a crumbling stone
tube set beneath the earth, filled with the refuse and offal pumped
down into it from the city above. Noxious fumes from this disgusting
mess hang heavy in the air, and strange slurping, choking sounds echo
hauntingly.
