The City was secure but with both the Forest Road and the Western Road closed, reinforcement was unlikely. After weeks of stalemate punctuated by increasingly savage assaults out of the Darkwood against the Gate and Eastern walls and accentuated by the silent siege of the Western Door pickets on the Dock defenses and guards on the Graveyard Bridge reported a large number of boats passing upstream singing the songs of Kagh-eh-Goru. They did not approach Silvermere but passed upstream and out of sight. None of the Militia or the Kings advisors knew what this might mean for as yet the forces of Goru-Nezar had not been identified as hostile, but as word filtered out some others took note. The King could not know that this was not the first move of Goru-Nezar but the second. The first move had been an assault on the Elven town in the Northern Forests. Using information supplied by his ally the Quickling Lord the forces of Goru-Nezar bypassed the Hill of Seeing and fell upon the Tower of Study, crushing it utterly. Unable to find the entry to the town hidden by
Elven magic the army eventually fell victim to the forces of the forest, at the end even the trees themselves joined the fight doing savage damage to the Ogre army. The curses of Goru-Nezar blighted parts of the Old Forest but could not save his tattered force. It was however an acceptable price to pay to keep the Elves out of the battle to come. Goru's hope rode with the success of the second force. It's purpose was to extinguish all hope of goodness and light in the world and as it progressed the clouds gathered and the sun could not
be seen.
