part 0

I must write this with great haste for even now they come for me.
I am but the simple innkeeper of the Dancing Dragon outside Arlysia, a crazed man garbed in gypsy leathers stumbled upon my doorstep not too long ago, this night was already considered a bad omen due to the great storm that came already upon this night. He babbled constantly, speaking of his fear of
an evil hag who was coming for him, begging and pleading to provide him shelter.
We were not so far from the Arlysia gates so I was tempted to send him there but something in me decided against it. I wish I had not.
Shortly a large gathering of gypsy dogs appeared, one indeed lead by an old woman, with a dark gleam in her eye. They all wielded wicked weapons of torture, each one looking more menacing then the next. They stood outside and I came out to meet them, the elderly demanded I turn over the babbler to them, that there work was not finished. Mustering what courage I could I denied them, telling them whatever wretched deeds they wished I would not be party to. She warned me that he was a banished one from their tribe, and I would regret my decision. Again I declined, and like a breeze of wind they all vanished.
With the help of my serving wenches and various patrons we all did what we could to soothe the babbler, nothing seemed to work and we gave him an upstairs room to die in. As the morning sun came up, so did he, brighter spirits then before. He gave no thanks and merely said he would return eventually and give me something proper for one such as me. Had I known how sinister those words were I would have gutted him there. He too vanished and was forgotten.

Abruptly one night I awoke to the screams of my wenches, rushing down I discovered the gypsy scoundrel, a diabolical gleam in his eyes, slaying everyone in sight! Grabbing the nearest chair I attacked him but with a sudden few flashes I was suddenly on the floor, holding my severed arm. He cackled and spit at me, calling me a dog, telling me how a fool I was to aid him when he was weak, for now he was strong and he would destroy all who had known him. What happened next I can not say but it is what now brings the scratching and howling to my door. Speaking in words that sounded vile and twisted the banished babbler moved his hands intricately and suddenly spoke in a booming voice, at the stroke of midnight my wonderful Inn would be besieged by bastardly little gremlins. And so now here I am, locked away in my room, spending my...

Claw marks on the page indicate the rest of the book has been abruptly ripped out, leaving no trace behind.
